Day 43: Defiance, Ohio to Adrian, Mich.

We took a later start this morning with just a shorter day into Michigan, but enjoyed another day of cooler temperatures. Today took us another day off the Adventure Cycling route as we headed north toward Adrian to visit my aunt and uncle. Roads were quiet through the morning as we weaved through farm towns and across the state border into Michigan. Niamh pointed out that, entering into Michigan today, we now have passed through 5 states in one week. Despite the generally similar terrain and scenery, it has been interesting to note each state's slightly different roads and culture. We noticed yesterday as we entered Ohio that even the street grids change when you cross the border.

As we entered the towns south of Adrian, Ed began recognizing more roads, and eventually was able to help guide us onto the trail that took us just a half-mile south of our destination today. We were greeted to warm showers, fresh laundry, a delicious meal, and some excellent local beers at the Adrian brewery.

We'll be spending another night here before we head back into Ohio, and hope to catch up with more family here tomorrow afternoon.
